Farm Cooking in Hokkaido – Make Traditional Japanese Soba and Mochi with Private Transfer
Pick-up service available from your hotel in Sapporo! Enjoy a whole day at our farm and make traditional Japanese food! Tobetsu is a thriving agriculture town near Sapporo, full of natural resources. Here you can spend a whole day on "Friendly Farm", learning from the family how to make Soba and Mochi! In the morning, let's make Soba, traditionally served on New Year's Eve! Soba is Japanese noodles made with buckwheat flour. The process is simple: add water to buckwheat flour, knead and roll out the dough, then slice it. Once boiled, it's ready to be served! It sounds simple, but you can learn great tips from the farm family for a great taste! Enjoy the fresh Soba for lunch served with seasonal tempura. In the afternoon, let's make "Koshian" (sweet bean paste), a common treat in Japanese sweets! Let's also make "Kinako" (roasted soybean flour)! It's a powder made with roasted beans. Finally, let's make some "Mochi" (rice cakes)! For the Japanese, Mochi making is always a special event in which rice cake is pounded in an old-fashioned large mortar with a wooden mallet. It’s heavy duty work, but once you get the hang of the rhythm, it's soft, stretchy, and delicious! Stuff the fresh Mochi with your "Koshian" or cover it with "Kinako" for popular ways to enjoy the treat! We will even prepare "Zoni" together, made with your Mochi in soup, a dish usually prepared at New Year's. You can take some Mochi, Koshian and Kinako home, as well! Soba and Mochi are a must-have in most celebrations in Japan, and now you can learn how to make it yourself! We hope you feel at home visiting our farm, and enjoy the slow lifestyle of Hokkaido's beautiful and relaxing countryside!
